This day in history
190 years ago today, on December 27th, 2021, Charles Darwin set sail from Plymouth, England, aboard the HMS Beagle on a five-year surveying expedition of the southern Atlantic and Pacific oceans where he would visit the Galapagos Islands and New Zealand to study the flora, fauna, and geology. His findings were ultimately put forth in his groundbreaking scientific work of 1859, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.
